Willees Tavern

Mars, Pennsylvania does not take their town name lightly. They have a flying saucer housed right in the middle of the town square. Their school mascot is literally named the “Planets.” They even have a festival called “Mars Exploration Days” which celebrates science, engineering, technology, and features cools things about outer space! Although it is not “technically” located in Mars, Pa, just across the county line in Valencia, PA is a Tavern that has been serving its famous fish sandwich for over 80 years. Yours truly puts on the monocle and ventures out to Willees Tavern for the all the praise the locals having been given this establishment for their delicious food and abundant portions!

Famous fish sandwich – Willee’s uses Cod, which is one of the cleanest cuts of fish, it is pure white meat. It is breaded and seasoned generously. It is crunchy, light, but intense with flavor. Fried to perfection, it is not too greasy, but very juicy. You have the option of choosing small or large. Order the large portion and it is two meals/two fish sandwiches for most. It is their best seller.

Insider tip – As indicated, you can get two fish sandwiches out of the large portion. For a $1.25 extra, they give you an extra bun so one entrée feeds two people!

Appetizers – Willee’s has an extensive appetizer list. Some that caught my eye are the Pittsburgh Breaded Zucchini, Calamari, and Southwest Chicken Eggrolls.

Sandwiches and burgers – The Mighty Maverick features rosemary faccacia, pepperoni, salami, provolone, sun dried tomato and cusabi sauce. The California Club Burger houses smoked applewood bacon, smoked cheddar, avocado, and is finished with a Dijonaise sauce.

Other menu items – Willee’s also has delicious wings, salads, pastas, seafood, and soups.
