No matter where you are from, what your interest is, or what life journey you choose, one thing we all have in common is heritage. That is the values, traditions, and pride that is passed down from parent to child from one generation to the next. Growing up you may not fully comprehend this concept, but as you grow and embark on life’s journey, whether you choose your parent’s path or something completely different, you ultimately want to make them proud.

Virginia “Ginny” Nigro got her start in the food industry in the 1920s during the prohibition era. She opened a restaurant and nightclub called the Blue Moon which eventually went on to gain national recognition. She then went on to open a pizza place called Ladonna’s in North Huntingdon. Finally, she ended her journey with a Steel City classic, Nigro’s Restaurant in North Versailles, which reached legendary status, having been in business for over 40 years.

Her grandchildren have carried on this tradition while facing the Covid-19 Pandemic head-on, opening their own unique pizza joint. Let me show you why you need to try Ginny’s Neighborhood Pizza Joint, and why her grandchildren and staff would make “Ginny” so proud.

The atmosphere – Upon entering this culinary masterpiece, you immediately feel welcome with the bright lighting, spaciousness, and finished, high-top wooden tables. You look around and immediately see Ginny’s legacy of pictures of her adorned on the walls. Ginny’s opened 5 weeks ago, and the customers were able to take advantage of the outdoor seating due to the atypical warm, fall weather. There is spacious, outdoor seating lit by ambient, Edison bulbs, tucked along the wood line giving you the privacy to enjoy a great meal.

The pizza – It is one thing to say you use the best ingredients, it is another to use the best that money can buy. At first glance of the pizza, you can tell that each ingredient was deliberately chosen and bursting with flavor. The Meatatarian (captioned), takes a meat lover’s pizza to a whole new level. The crust is thick, airy, buttery, yet extremely light. What made it so unique and juicy was the beautiful use of ricotta cheese. The combination of meats is pure genius, with a mixture of Pepperoni, Pinched Hot Sausage, Meatball, Prosciutto, Bacon, and a blend of high-end cheeses. They have a variety of other specialty pizzas, and traditional pies as well.

Pastas and other menu items – Ginny’s features creative pasta dishes using local, homemade pastas from Fede Pasta in Irwin, PA. The Bruco Carbonara and Marinara Alla Ginny are packed with flavor and bring back memories of Sunday dinners with family. Ginny’s also has salads, sandwiches, and appetizers to share. The menu is easy to read, yet very descriptive highlighting the variety of specialties available.

NEW PIZZA JOINT in MURRYSVILLE OVER-DELIVERS and MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE FAMILY

My final take – As fourth-generation restaurant owners, the owners understand the importance of customer service and making you feel like family. The owners can regularly be seen spending some time mingling with their customers. While you are there, they want to make you feel at home. Ginny’s has only been open for 5 weeks, and as a result, they are abundantly staffed to serve their customers. This may arguably be the best pizza in the Steel City. Give it a try, you will be blown away.
