Gyro Meat Diversified at Mike and Tony’s

Continuing our Greek kick…! Our next stop is one that Steel City natives are saying is starting to become a staple in the community when it comes to a great gyro. The tenets of dining are simple; people want good food for a great price and they want to leave satisfied when spending their hard-earned buck. Mike and Tony’s gives you both. Mike and Tony’s is a family-owned restaurant with four locations around Pittsburgh – Moon, Southside, Downtown Pittsburgh, and Bridgeville. I have been hearing about this establishment for a long time, finally got a chance to try it, and was pleased with several aspects.

Let me start off by saying their gyro is solid in every way. The gyro is a great portion and the gyro meat is juicy and piled high with loads of meat and finished with a thick and rich gyro sauce. You can choose your side of French fries or go for lighter fare with a Greek salad. We got the Greek salad, which was filled with cucumbers, un-pitted olives, greens, and topped with a house-made vinaigrette that was amazing!

I want to highlight what caught my attention and was a must try. The M&T Fries. When appetizers can become meals, you catch my attention. The M&T Fries are perfectly cooked  not too greasy and not burnt. They are topped with a heaping pile of gyro meat and it packs a punch with the added feta cheese. It is finished with ranch dressing, and the kicker – buffalo sauce. Gyro sauce is provided for dipping as well. This dish screams guilty pleasure.

Summary

As always, my final take. We ordered a gyro and M&T Fries. It was basically two meals. The amount of food we got for just over $20 was noticeable and appreciated. The bottom line is, it lived up to the hype. Their menu gives you a lot of options but is not overly sophisticated or intimidating. It is relatively easy on your wallet as well. We will be back for more Greek food, that is for sure!
