Sal’s Ristorante

Chippewa, Pennsylvania. It’s geography is located less than 10 miles from the flatlands of Ohio, home to the Beaver County Airport, and the legendary Blackhawk High School basketball program, boasting a famous 111 game section winning streak and numerous titles.  It’s home to Blackhawk Golf Course, a rare 36 hole public course always in excellent shape. Could Chippewa be the next mini Cranberry?  Not sure, however, it’s grown substantially over the past 20-some years.  It’s also known for some culinary gems and great places to enjoy a meal.  Let’s take a further look into why Sal’s Ristorante & Bar has passed the test of time.

Since 1985, Sal’s has been serving authentic, homemade, Italian food. Sal’s is known for having a great calzone such as Italian, buffalo chicken, meatball, and other favorites.  Let me segue into their famous Italian Stallion by breaking down my levels of Italian meats.  Pepperoni, salami, and ham – I consider these basic Italian lunch meats.  Good bases for an Italian sub or sandwich.  You take it to the next level with an advanced Italian meat, capicola.  Elevate it to expert level by adding prosciutto.  Ever wonder why prosciutto is so expensive? It’s not only the hard work it takes to make it, but during the aging process, you are left with a lot less product once it has aged. Sal’s Italian Stallion is comprised of mozzarella, prosciutto, pepperoni and Italian sausage.  Homemade dough is used to form the calzone. It’s fresh, it’s sweet, it’s light but you don’t leave hungry. Accompany it with a homemade, rich marinara for dipping sauce, and you have a job well-done.

Sal's Ristorante Final Take:

Summary

My final take. When you’ve been open for over 30 years in what Pittsburgh TV personality (and Midland native) Ellis Cannon nicknames “America’s County,” you’re doing something right.  I personally have eaten here numerous times, whether that is with family, out of necessity, or on a date, and have never been disappointed.  There’s a quality atmosphere which means they pretty much cover all bases.  It’s clean, great dining area, bar, outdoor patio, nightlife, etc.  The owner personally came over to me not once, but twice, asking me if I need anything.  What’s that tell you? They care.  If you’re in the area, check this place out, you won’t be disappointed.
