SCENARIO… It is almost mealtime, and you are looking for somewhere to eat that is tasty and has made from scratch food. You live in the Pittsburgh Metro, preferably on the North or West side of the city. You do not want to go downtown, but you also do not want to venture that far from the city. Here is the deal, you do not want to break the bank, and you want to get your money’s worth. You also want a decent ambience as well. Sunny Jim’s maybe your place.
Sunny Jim’s has been serving its customers for over 80 years. Their slogan is “Great food and drink served with a friendly smile”. Here, they smoke their meats over local hardwood every day. They are known for their famous smoked and fried Chicken Wings. You can start your meal off with a generous appetizer to share. Their burgers are big and offer a wide variety of toppings. Most burgers ordered at a restaurant are 6 to 8 ounces. Sunny Jim’s are 10 ounces. You get your bang for your buck. They also have solid sandwiches, salads, and entrees. Most of the food is made from scratch and you are not going to overpay.
Upon arrival, one will notice the substantial size of this establishment. It has 2 bars, a large dining room, and an outdoor patio that can hold up to 100 people for private events. If you are looking to watch a sporting event, they have a multitude of big-screen TVs. Personally, when I go to a restaurant, I like my space and do not want to feel cramped. There is plenty of room at this establishment.

PITTSBURGH’S LONGEST SERVING TAVERN?
As always, my final take… A lot of times when dining out, one must consider what they want to sacrifice, whether that be cost or quality. I give Probst to anyone in the restaurant industry as it is not an easy business. Restaurant owners have a right to run their restaurant as they see fit and charge what they want to charge. In the new age model of restaurants, in my opinion, they give you a lot of flare, but at the end of the day, you are paying for all those intangible items, and getting smaller portions with diminishing return. At Sunny Jim’s, this will not happen. You will get made from scratch, tasty food, at a fair price. Try it, and see for yourself…
