Nested in the countryside of the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania is Wexford, Pennsylvania. Wexford is one of the most sought out places to live in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Metropolitan area for several reasons. Wexford was ranked 28th best place to live by Money magazine in 2005. To start, the North Allegheny School district is one of the best in the state. It has several flourishing businesses’ incorporate chains, small businesses, car dealerships, and other up-and-coming establishments. It is home to North Park and North Park Lake which provides residents and visitors several options for recreation. Many professional athletes call Wexford their home. Bottom line, Wexford is growing and fast. It never hurts, however, to throw a wrench into the mix and switch things up. Sometimes people want a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Totin’s Diner in Wexford has done this, and it is here, you can get an old-fashioned meal with a generous portion size without breaking the bank. Converted from an old gas station, Totin’s take us back in time, let us explore!
The food – Like a lot of Pittsburgh diners, one of the many items that Totin’s prides itself on is breakfast which you can order all day. The pancakes are regionally famous. At first glance, you will notice they are literally close to as big as the steering wheel in your car. Not only is quantity there but the quality as well. The baking powder is fresh. The base is buttermilk, and they are cooked to perfection on the flat top. Totin’s also has your traditional breakfast combos which include items such as eggs cooked to your liking, bacon, sausage, kielbasa, hash browns, and other breakfast items. They also have a variety of omelets and feature their “sammies”, which are their breakfast sandwiches. When in Rome, they also have steak and eggs. Breakfast is the first and many say most important meal of the day, live it up!
Lunch and dinner – Totin’s mission is to serve hearty dishes that satisfy your body and soul. They want to serve you quality family food at an affordable price. Let us highlight some of the signature dishes and give you an overview of the lunch and dinner menu.
The fish sandwich – “Totin’s Titanic Fish Sandwich” (captioned) is one of their signature dishes. It features a pound of fresh, fried cod. Cod is the filet mignon of fish. It is the cleanest cut, pure white meat. Totin’s uses their own batter-dipped recipe. It is crunchy, light but intense with flavor. Fried to perfection, it is not too greasy, but very juicy. As you can see, the portion size is huge. Finish the dish with crispy fries and you will leave happy.
The 58oz Prime Rib (Saturdays only) – Totin’s features a monster 58oz bone-in prime rib. Legend has it, that only around 10 people in the restaurant’s history have finished it alone. It starts out with a rib roast that has vivid color with milky white fat. It also has an even distribution of fat with a substantial layer of fat around the ends. It is cooked to the perfect medium-rare and obviously, most of the time, this fine piece of real estate is shared amongst the table.
Totin’s also has great burgers, sandwiches, and salads. A burger that catches your eye is the “Totin Burger” which is a breakfast burger. It features 8oz of Angus beef and topped with hash browns, fried egg, bacon, and American cheese. They also have a ton of sandwich choices such as a Philly steak, hot turkey sandwich, pot roast sandwich, gyro, and other sandwich choices. An entrée that catches your eye if you are from the Steel City is the Pittsburgh Platter Dinner. It features kielbasa, sour kraut, hot Italian sausage, pierogis, and your choice of mashed potatoes or vegetables.

My final take – Life can be monotonous at times and sometimes you need to switch it up. Anyone that knows or lives in the Wexford area knows that it is a great place to live. It is beautiful, modern, and growing at an incredible pace. Driving by Totin’s you immediately notice this place sticks out. It is unique, old-school, and most importantly has delicious food.
